10th Orlen Copernicus Cup full of records!

Athletes celebrated the jubilee of ORLEN Copernicus Cup with grace and dignity.

Ewa Swoboda did great and scored world lead in 60-metre race after a passionate battle. Again, Jakub Szymański's form was mighty impressive, and Filip Rak set the new U23 Polish indoor record in 1500-metre race. Three Polish athletes got the minimum result for World Championships in Glasgow in March.

Swoboda, on the blue track of Toruń Arena, had a fierce fight with Italy representative Zaynab Dosso. Polish athlete barely beat her opponent by scoring 7.01 at the finish line, and precisely speaking, the difference between them was .013 seconds. That put Swoboda as a leader on world's lists. Today's result is the third one for Iwona Krupa's pupil's career.

After Sunday's new Polish record in 60-metre hurdle race, another great start was noted by 22-year-old Jakub Szymański. The contestant of SKLA Sopot won the race having second-best score in his career – 7.48, despite some mistakes at the end of the distance. This score was only 0.01 second slower than the best score in the history of Poland. Krzysztof Kiljan, who finished the race on the sixth position, set his new personal best with 7.61 and moved forward on to the sixth place on Polish all-time best lists.

Having had an appetite on setting the new Polish indoor record, Pia Skrzyszowska, in the final of 60-metre hurdle race, did not avoid mistakes and lost – by only .012 – to Nadine Visser. Nadine scored 7.80 and Pia scored 7.81 in the end. A valuable personal best was set by Weronika Nagięć. With the time of 8.02, she placed fourth. Not only did she move to the nineth place on Polish all-time best lists, but also she got the minimum result for World Championships in Glasgow.

Polish long distance runners used the good pace in 1500-metre race. Freweyni Hailu won the woman's event (3:55.28, the best score in the world and the third in history), Weronika Lizakowska was the seventh and Martyna Galant was the nineth and they both got the minimum result for World Championships in Glasgow. Polish athletes set their new personal's best by achieving 4:05.16 and 4:05. 67 respectively. Samuel Tefera (3:34.61) won men's event, and Filip Rak got the third result in the history of Polish athletics and at the same time the U23 Polish indoor record – 3:37.30*

In 400-metre race, Marika Popowicz-Drapała was very impressive. She set a fast pace, won the event and set her new personal best 52.14. International series was conquered by Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands – the time of 50.57 is the best time in the history of competitions in Toruń.

The pole vault event was dominated by Piotr Lisek. Polish pole vaulter granted himself a victory by jumping over the crossbar set at the height of 5.75. He tried to attack 5.85, but in vain.

In the classification of World Athletics indoor competitions, ORLEN Copernicus Cup takes the second place. Weekend competition in Boston turned out to be better this season. Both of these competitons are included in the Indoor Tour Gold cycle.
